This vlog is all about our recent visit to St Mary'ss Islands of Udupi District, Karnataka, India during 18 Mar 2017. St mary's Island is approximately 15 Kms from Udupi town You need to board the boat from Malpe fishing harbour to reach St Mary's island. Boat ticket price: 200rs per person (includes to and fro journey). Buy tickets at: St Mary's Island boating office near the port. St Mary's islands are known for their distinctive geological formation of the hexagonal columns of rock made of basalt. Geological studies indicate that these islands were created at around 88 million years ago when Madagascar and Africa separated from India. Malpe fishing harbour to St Mary's Island 5 Kms According to folk legend, in the year 1498, Vasco da Gama landed at these Islands on his journey from Portugal and named one of these islands, O Padrão de Santa Maria, as a dedication to Mother Mary.
