Located on the south bank of the river Tungabhadra, Virupaksha temple of Hampi is one of the oldest functioning temples in India where worship is being performed ever since its inception in the 7th century AD. Temple is noted for its architecture and has been listed among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Temple is also known as Pampapati Temple and it is constructed in Dravidian architecture style. Vijayanagara rulers were responsible for building this preexisted small shrine of Virupaksha & Pampa into a large temple complex. Once you enter the temple complex, the little naughty elephant Laxmi welcomes you with her blessings. The central pillared hall is the most ornate structure. Known as the Ranga Mandapa this pillared hall was added to the temple complex in 1510 AD by Krishadeva Raya. This hall with 38 pillars is used for temple rituals including the marriage ceremonies. The mural panel on the central portion of the hall is one of the few remains of this form of Vijayanagara art. Most of it is based on godly themes. The most important of the sub shrines is that of Goddess Pampa and Bhuvaneswari, consorts of Lord Shiva, towards the north of the main shrine. These shrines are in fact much older than the rest of the grandiose structures in the compound. Located in font of the Virupaksha temple, The chariot street is popularly known as Hampi Bazaar. Both sides of the street are lined with a series of old pavilions, some of them are two storied. These structures were once part of a thriving market and residence of the nobles. Legend says this was the street where Gold, diamond, jewels and other expensive items used to be sold openly like how vegetables are sold at present. #hampi #karnatakatourism #virupakshaTemple #stepstogether Information Courtesy: http://hampi.in/virupaksha-temple Stepstogether.in ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meet us at: Website: http://stepstogether.in FaceBook : https://www.facebook.com/steps2gether Twitter: https://twitter.com/steps2gether ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music: Track 1: BLEU ROCHER - Moonlight (No Copyright Music) Artist: RFM - Royalty Free Music Link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KE00B... -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Hogenakkal falls coracle ride 2019 | Hogenakkal trip complete details | Tamilnadu Tourism" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scNrG... -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-.
